The House

The House

A small but comfortable four bedroom house on Sydney's exclusive and picturesque Northern Beaches situated in a quiet postcard bush setting on an island facing Pittwater & Church Point and only 120m from the waterfront where it's safe to swim.

One main bedroom with queen bed & water views, 2 kids bedroom with double bunks, 1 other bedroom with double bed & ensuite. Kitchen with dishwasher, laundry with washer/drier. Towels & sheets supplied or BYO. Free Wi-Fi, high def smart TV + Netflix. BYOD.

Activities include swimming, fishing, surfing & exploring nearby Kuring-Gai Chase National Park. There is a park & public gas BBQs on the island - we have always found the park safe for our kids to go to on their own & so have other swappers who can't believe the freedom children can enjoy here.

From Church Point, where there is a fantastic cafe/restaurant right on the water & basic supplies plus regular live music, it's a 6km drive to Mona Vale with its restaurants & supermarkets incl Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Thomas Dux, and Harris Farm, plus boutique clothes and coffee shops. From Mona Vale it's a 20 min drive to Palm Beach & 30 mins to Manly and around an 1hr on a bus (less via car) to Sydney's CBD where the Sydney Festival will be in full swing in January.

This is a real island & access is by water only, which means all supplies have to be carried to the house or the community vehicle called to pick you up for a bigger load, therefore a reasonable level of fitness & sense of adventure is an advantage!

Our house is above the ferry wharf - the ferry goes to the mainland at least hourly, plus there's a water taxi and if you have boating experience we are willing to negotiate the use of our commuter boat.

You park your car at Church Point - please be aware street parking will be testing at times over the holiday period (particularly in the evening) but if you are patient you'll find something or if we arrange to swap cars we have a resident's sticker that allows unrestricted parking though a space isn't guaranteed.

We have 4 chickens who would love to be cared for during your stay. We also have a gorgeous friendly groodle called Mollie who can stay with the house or we can have her minded.

There is a local cleaner you can pay to clean the house upon your departure if you prefer.

We are interested in coming to Hobart for the Wooden Boat Festival in 2017. We are open to offers for Easter & any school holidays plus weekend getaways.

At the moment we are looking to swap around the Geelong area Jan 8 - 16, 2017 then further along the Great Ocean Rd from the 16th to the 25th of January.

The Location

The Location

Ocean beaches nearby, 25 mins drive to Palm Beach and about the same to Manly. Situated opposite Kuring-Gai National Park. By boat (we can discuss whether you feel comfortable using ours) there's the Basin and various bays and beaches to explore. Kids over 7 who are good swimmers will find great joy being able to wander and take themselves to the park without parents' worrying.

There are no shops on the island - part of its quaintness and charm - so it does mean bringing everything across from the mainland. There are options for travelling across the water and our house is right by a ferry wharf.

There are some restaurants accessible by water and we would leave instructions on these. The main shopping district is accessible by bus or car.

Guests are free to use some household groceries - oils, sauces, cleaning products etc. & if you do a large shop at the start of your stay there is a community vehicle that will take you to the front steps for a flat fee paid to the driver.

We have chickens that we hope you won't mind looking after.
