Profile: Family-of-5 - Completed House Swaps: 1
We are a family of 5 who are self-employed on Kangaroo Island. Our children George, Claire and Claudia are 10, 8 and 4 - an active lot. Our house operates as accommodation "Pavilions" and sleeps 6 comfortably. Ben is a private livestock and wool agent on Kangaroo Island and also runs 600+ sheep. We would like to travel for one to two weeks during our quieter months (winter) and dosen't have to be a direct swap since we are offering our accommodation and not our home. Having just been to NZ, the children are wanting to learn to ski and we would love a week away in the july holidays 2013.
Type: House (accommodation), Bathrooms: 1, Bedrooms: 3, Sleeps: 6
About our House: Situated in a bushland setting at Cygnet River, Pavilions is a self-catering 'hidden treasure', and a great base to explore in all directions. Perfectly equipped with air conditioning, fans, blankets and much more, Pavilions ensures your comfort in our hot summers, cold winters and everything in between. Get ready to spot some koalas, kookaburras, turkeys and more friendly natives.
Cygnet River's abundance of tall gum trees and creekside shrubbery makes this an ideal home for koala's, birds, possums and echidnas. This is a great place to stay whilst being perfectly central to all attractions. Just 12km from Kingscote, with roads leading in all directions, be sure to have your own form of transport as Pavilions is suitable for the independent traveller.
Enjoy everything Kangaroo Island has to offer from this delightful 'home away from home' which sleeps one or two couples or a family of up to 6, is always freshly stocked with tea & coffee, eggs, soaps and more, and of course includes bed linen and soft towels.
Sea-lions basking on white beaches, koalas dozing in lofty eucalypts, pelican soaring over shimmering lagoons.... Kangaroo Island is a pristine wilderness - a place that has offered protection to substantial populations of native Australian animals, a place of beauty and a place of escape. Kangaroo Island is also big and surprisingly diverse. If you traverse its 155km length you'll find soaring cliffs, dense forest, towering sand dunes, wetlands and massive arcs of bone white beach.
Of course KI has an abundance of space so you'll always find somewhere to call your own - somewhere to enjoy a little quiet time and let nature soothe your spirit. But just because its wild, don't underestimate its welcome. Some 4400 people live here, most primary produces, many descended from Islanders who have farmed the land and fished the seas for generations.
Naturally enough, being surrounded by fertile lands and rich waters, Kangaroo Island produces some of Australias finest gourmet foods, such as sheeps cheese, marron, a unique variety of honey and an exciting range of varietal wines. You'll also find a rich history herre, thriving arts community, wildlife parks and pristine beaches.
