Profile: Family-of-4 - Completed House Swaps: 1
We are a family of 4. Myself (Susan), my husband (Stuart) and our 2 children Bailey (10 years) and Annabel (9 years). Stuart and I work together and run a recruitment company in Melbourne. We have done a few house swaps previously and enjoyed wonderful experiences. We are looking forward to discovering more places in both Australia and around the world! Specifically, we would love to travel to the Gold Coast area (theme parks!) sometime this year (2013). We are open to suggestions!
Type: House, Bathrooms: 3, Bedrooms: 4, Sleeps: 7
About our House: Currently Booked from 15/12/2013 to 31/1/2014
We live in a beautiful part of South Melbourne. Our home is a Victorian terrace that we renovated 7 years ago. It is in a wonderful quiet street, immediately opposite a small area of parkland in a very friendly and safe location. We have a large garden for the inner city, with a trampoline, basketball hoop and lots of flowers!
We have a fairly large home for the area. It is a 2 storey terrace, with 3 bedrooms upstairs. The front bedroom has a small balcony and overlooks the parkland opposite our house. This room is large and has an amazing, comfortable king size bed.
The other 2 bedrooms upstairs belong to our children - an 8 year old girl (the bedroom is pink/mauve) with a single bed, and a 9 year old boy (whose bedroom has a "king single" bed - meaning it's a bit wider and longer than a normal single bed). There is also a spare single mattress in this room.
Upstairs there is also a modern bathroom with a bath (shower over the bath) and another separate shower room. There is a toilet in the bathroom upstairs.
Downstairs we have the following:
- a piano room/study, with an upright piano and a computer
- a "sitting room" which has a fold out sofa bed - you could have someone sleeping in this room, but it's not ideal, the sofabed is not really comfortable
- we have a lovely modern kitchen fully equipped with a lovely oven, dishwasher, microwave and large fridge
- a large "family room" with a gorgeous heated travertine floor (nice during the winter!) There is reverse cycle heating/airconditioning in the room. This room also has a large 59 inch flatscreen television and a large dining table (seats 8). There is also a gas open fireplace in this room.
There is a European laundry downstairs with a washing machine and dryer.
The family room overlooks our back garden, which is a decked area. It is quite a large area, with a BBQ. The garden also has a trampoline and a basketball hoop).
After the garden is our double garage, with a gorgeous apartment above. The apartment has it's own bathroom and a small kitchenette. Is it very comfortable with a queen size bed and reverse cycle heating/airconditioning. Sleeps 2.
We live in a beautiful part of South Melbourne, within 5-10 minutes walk to Albert Park Lake, the South Melbourne Market, the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre and a whole range of beautiful cafes, restaurants and bars.
We are within a 2 minute walk to various tram stops where you can take a tram to the city (5-10 minute journey) or to St Kilda (10 minute journey).
Melbourne is an amazing city, with so much to do - and our home is close to pretty much eveything Melbourne city has to offer. Shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, museums, theatre, sporting events (cricket at the MCG, the grand prix at Albert Park Lake, the Australian Tennis Open, Australian Football etc), local beaches - everything is either a walk or a fairly short tram ride away.
If you like to walk (or jog!), you can run around gorgeous Albert Park Lake, or you could run along the Esplanade (alongside the beach) where there is a great running/walking track as well as a cycling track. If you enjoy swimming, the world class Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre is a 5 minute walk from our home - there are 2 50 metre pools (one indoor, the other outdoor), 2 hydrotherapy pools, a fantastic pool for small children and several spas and sauna rooms.
We have some lovely restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk from our home, you can enjoy modern Australian cuisine, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Thai etc - it's all right nearby.
As you can see, we love our home and we love South Melbourne!
2 dogs. 13 year old maltese shih tzu (small black fluffy dog!). 14 year old golden retriever. Both very low maintenance and very friendly.
