House Swap with us

I work in IT and my wife is a counsellor. We have a ten year old daughter, an eight year old son and a spoilt dog who can be looked after by others if needed. We have travelled extensively through South America and South East Asia before we had children and would now like to show them different places and cultures. Most of our extended family is in Sydney so we try and get back there every year if we can. We enjoy the outdoors - swimming, snorkelling and bushwalking. As we live in the tropics and our children have grown up here we are also keen to show the kids snow.

The House

The House

The house is a Queenslander with large wrap around undercover wooden deck with outdoor dining and lounge that catches the afternoon sun.

The main bedroom has a queen bed, bathroom and its own balcony. There are 2 other bedrooms with single beds in each and a study that has a sofa bed if required. The main bathroom has a spa bath for soaking in after a day on the reef. There is a laundry, living room and large kitchen area with day bed for relaxing in. The living room has a large couch with TV and a low table and seats for breakfast inside or craft area for kids.

Outside, there is a large garden with a pool, BBQ and trampoline that give the kids (and adults) plenty of activities to play.

Situated in Trinity Beach, a northern suburb in Cairns, the beach is a flat ten-minute walk from the house. We also enjoy direct access from our garden to a park which has fitness equipment, bike track, two playgrounds and a Youth Space that includes a soccer field, basketball court, climbing wall and skate park. We also have bikes for the whole family to use.

The things we love about living here

  • Beach is a short walk with lots of great restaurants.
  • Rainforest and Atherton Tablelands are great for day trips.
  • The reef and islands are a short boat ride away.
  • Palm Cove and Port Douglas are a short drive away.

The Location

The Location

We live about 200m from a shopping centre which has everything that you need including a grocery store, post office, newsagent, bakery, butcher, bottle shop, pizza bar, sushi train, Italian restaurant, Thai takeaway, cafe and pharmacy. Bigger shopping Centres are 10 mins drive.

There are also a few restaurants and a bar 5-10 mins walk away. They are open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour! Dinner on the beach is also an option with a great Thai restaurant, a pub overlooking the beach or top notch pizza. One of our favourite places, Kewarra Beach Resort has wood fire pizza and live music right on the beach.

The beach itself has a stinger net in the summer and water sport hire in the winter which can entertain the kids for hours. For those more active there are plenty of yoga classes right on the beach, stand up paddle boarding both at the beach and in the rainforest and a golf course is only a 5 min drive.

Cairns City is 25 mins by car and from there you can access Fitzroy or Green Island (a 50 min ferry ride) or the Great Barrier Reef. At Fitzroy and Green Island you can snorkel straight off the beach and we often see turtles.

Trinity Beach is about 10 mins drive from Palm Cove where there are loads of excellent restaurants and bars. Cattana Wetlands is also close by and is a peaceful place to ride a bike or bird watch.

Further afield, Kuranda is a beautiful village in the rainforest and is 20 mins drive or you can catch the cable car or train. There is plenty to offer at Port Douglas including a great market each Sunday. The Daintree and Cape Tribulation is further north and really is where the rainforest meets the sea. At Cape Tribulation you can go horse riding on the beach as well as enjoy plenty of walks in the rainforest or refreshing swims in the many waterholes. The Atherton Tablelands is 1.5 hours drive and is a foodies heaven with many coffee, tea and dairy farms to visit. There are also plenty of waterfalls and two beautiful crater lakes in which to enjoy a swim.

We had a wonderful seamless swap with Jody and family for two weeks. We successfully swapped homes, cars and dogs for 2 wonderful weeks. Jody's home with pool is located close to Cairns, Palm Cove and Port Douglas. It was very comfortable. Their dog is adorable. Jody was a pleasure to deal with and very accommodating. Highly recommend swapping with this family !

This was our favourite house swap to date. The house, the family and the pet dog were so great. Jody was really easy to communicate with both in the lead up and during the stay. It was a bumpy journey due to covid travel restrictions/lockdowns but against the odds we completed the swap. The home is spacious, comfortable and well located and the kids loved the backyard pool. Thank you Jody and Bec and I hope we can swap again. Our home was so well kept so it was nice to return to that kindness after our holiday too.
