Welcome to our home and welcome to Hanmer Springs, a very beautiful part of the South Island of New Zealand, approximately 130Kms north west of the city of Christchurch and a vibrant alpine tourist resort. My husband and I love to travel. Tony is a retired land management specialist and Christine is semi-retired with a part-time business and recruitment consultancy. While we are flexible for exchanges we are particularly interested in the Outback, Queensland, rural, or other parts of Australia, as long as Covid allows us to travel and exchange. We prefer similtaneous exchanges, but would consider non-simultaneous and are happy to house sit. We are also interested in spending time in the South Island of NZ, particularly the lower part of the South. We would have a car available for your use and prefer exchanges which also provide a car for our use.

We live in a comfortable, modern house (210 sq metres) on 12 hectares, 7kms from the tourist, spa village of Hanmer Springs, which is 130 Kms north west of the city of Christchurch. Our home has spectacular views over the valley and mountains.
It is quiet, peaceful and totally private, yet we are only 90 minutes to a major city (Christchurch). We wake to the sounds of birds and to an amazing every changing landscape.
There is plenty of space and the house opens onto a terrace and large lawn.
The Summers can be hot and dry and the winters are cold with snow a couple of times a year in the Village.

There is lots to do in Hanmer Springs.... Walk the forest trails and breath in the fresh clean air; have a leisurely lunch or dinner at one of the excellent restaurants or cafes. You can also enjoy some of the best mountain biking in New Zealand. There are tracks and challenges for every level.
One of the main attractions is the Thermal Pools and Spa which attracts people from all over the world.
You are also right in the great outdoors. There are some great rivers, with trout fishing right at the back door and if you want something to challenge you how about trying a bungy jump from the bridge over the Waiau River, or an exciting jet boat ride, or rafting. What about a quad bike ride across a scenic landscape ? Perhaps a game of golf is more your thing ?
Hanmer Springs is the perfect base to venture into New Zealand's spectacular back country. Our diverse and expansive landscape offers a range of outdoor activities. - walking, trekking, mountain biking, horse riding, camping, hunting, mountain climbing or just picnicking and exploring this fantastic area.
It is an easy drive to Kaikoura, New Zealand's leading Eco-tourism destination and the famous Whale Watch experience. An hour's drive will take you to the Waipara Wine region where some of New Zealand's outstanding Sauvignon Blanc is made, as well as some excellent Riesling, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay,
Here the summers are hot and dry and the winters are cold, with snow in the village 3-4 times a year.
