Home exchange and house swap holiday accommodation in Congewai, Hunter Valley, NSW
We are in our 60's, recently retired professionals, and experienced world travelers. It's time to take it a bit slower, return to places that we love, and to find new adventures.

Our house is located on a farm 15 minutes from Cessnock – gateway to the wonderful Hunter Valley vineyard region. You may see kangaroos grazing in the paddocks as you enjoy breakfast on the big verandah, encounter the varied native bird life that comes to the bird-bath in our yard, or encounter other unique wildlife as you wander around. We are on a dead end road off a dead end road – there is little traffic, just simple country peace and quiet.
If you want to explore Sydney, we are around 2 hours drive from the centre of the city using the M1 motorway. If you don’t want to drive, Sydney is 2 hours by train from Morisset station (45 minutes from the house). Similarly, we are just over 3 hours drive from the Blue Mountains and the many sights & attractions it has to offer. Our car (MG3) includes a toll tag (charge back to be negotiated) so you can take the fastest route. The city of Newcastle is around an hours drive from the house while the Hunter Valley vineyards and other local attractions are around 20 minutes away.
The house itself has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The living area includes a smart TV with some streaming services available and a DVD player connected. Unlimited internet access is via reliable fixed wireless broadband at around 100Gb/sec. If it’s too cold there is a cozy gas fireplace, and if it is too hot you can jump in the 12-metre pool in the back yard. 2 bedrooms are air conditioned. Laundry facilities (washer, drier, and clothesline) are available. A decently set up kitchen is at your disposal if you want to explore the flavours of the local produce. If you are a Thermomix person – we even have one of those. That spice rack in the picture has over 50 different flavours to play with. If you want to kick back and read, our library has just over 2,500 books.
The house is surrounded on the SE, NE, and NW sides by a wide verandah and includes a large gas BBQ. This is where we do most of our living in the Spring and Summer. Many a visitor, both local and from overseas, has commented on how tranquil this place is, yet so close to Sydney.
If we were to sum our house up it would take 5 letters …. R-E-L-A-X.
Just a couple of things to note – we are on tank water so it is important to make sure all taps and cisterns are closed properly. We also have a pump out septic system – you may hear a strange noise outside in the night. And there are cows. They are harmless but may get noisy. There is a dirt road and driveway to the property, but the car is accustomed to it. Our son lives just down the road and is available to help with any emergencies or issues.
