We spent a wonderful 3 months (December 2022, January & February 2023) home exchanging with Laura in her lovely apartment. At first we thought there would be little to see as we were relying on public transport (no car). As it turns out, we could not have been more mistaken and Laura’s home was a simple Route 381 bus to Bondi Junction where there are endless shopping and supermarkets but most importantly, Bondi Junction is the major transport hub for trains and buses. Alternatively, the Route 333 took us directly from Bondi (and Bondi Beach) to Circular Quay in central Sydney where there are all of Sydney’s public transport on hand (trains, buses, ferries and light rail/trams). We visited over 100+ sights, ranging from museums and art galleries through to guided tours of the city, the defensive fortifications of Sydney Harbour, the State theatre, Victoria Barracks, etc. Sydney abounds in endless walks starting with Bondi to Coogee Costal Walk, the South Head Historic Walk, and numerous North Sydney walks. For the really adventurous walking enthusiasts, there is the 80km ‘Bondi to Manly walking track’ which is one of only a handful of urban coastal treks and in the world and takes in must-see Sydney icons Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House, as well as historic sites, art galleries, museums, cafes and restaurants and 47 beaches. A 7-8 day walk that you can stop and resume each day but having the convenience of sleeping each night in the home exchange apartment. We walked many of the Sydney walks but we also kept ourselves busy with a vast number of Sydney sights, museums, galleries, tours and activities that we simply ‘ran out of time’ to explore all of them. We recommend Laura’s home to anyone who wants to either enjoy Bondi Beach or for the even more adventurous, to explore Sydney on a 1-3 month long home exchange as there is simply so much to see and Laura’s home is located in an ideal location.
